Members of the FOTM Board and volunteers from all along the Town Mountain corridor between Asheville and the Blue Ridge Parkway, and members of the Beaverdam Community to the north, have made major progress in reforming the 'rubber stamp' approval of almost any request from steep-slope developers in the Buncombe County/Asheville area. The Board of Friends of Town Mountain, Inc. (FOTM) advocates a sensible approach to development that preserves the steep slopes, attempts to control slides and erosion and protects neighbors.

Observe what is going on beyond the "posted" signs at the TMR and Wolf Cove entrances, pictured right. This is the entrance in the Beaverdam Community. Our aerial photographs will show you more.

Radon is a problem along the Town Mountain Road corridor. Even new homes with passive radon mitigation have tested dangerously high. Test kits are available by calling (800) 247-2435. Occasionally they are offered free within the county. Read more information here.

Joe Sechler, driving force behind the formation of Friends of Town Mountain, will step down as FOTM President, Jan 30,2008. Joe spent endless hours on behalf of FOTM, attending most County Planning Board and Commissioner meetings. The FOTM board will soon elect a new president. »

Garden Snake

This little guy guards the spring that once cooled the milk for the Mountain Meadows Inn, located on Dairy Gap Rd. He's very adept at climbing the rock wall. Here are pictures of Mountain Meadows Inn in its heyday.
