Create a text only blog entry

1. Create a text only blog entry

Click on the menu link 'Create Content' in the left navigation pane. When the sub menus become visible, click on 'Blog enty'. Enter a 'Title' for your blog post in the top field. You can then type your post and edit it as you would in any word processor in the 'Body:' section. Hovering over any of the buttons at the top tells you  the function of that button. You can even cut and paste from a Microsoft Word document using the button with the 'W' (Paste from Word).  To copy text from a Word document, select the text you want and copy it to the clipboard by choosing 'copy' from the edit menu ( or type Ctrl-C). Then click on the Paste from Word button and follow the directions in the pop up window which appears.

You can make the text bold, italic, underlined etc by selecting the text and pressing the corresponding buttons or by pressing the button/s first and typing. You can also add  highlight color or change the color of the text. You can add a date: 2008-08-27 or even current time 15:22:42. There are justification buttons as well as different types of lists you can create (like the numbered list on the previous page) If you want to express you feelings using emoticons just click the smily face button Cool.

Drupal breaks up you post into a teaser and full text with a 'Read More' link to go from the teaser to the full text of your post. If you don't like the place at which it is broken you can decide where this break should occur. Just put your cursor where you want it to break and press the 'Separate Drupal Teaser and Body' button in the editor. You will see <!--break--> appear in red at that point. Just dont stuff too much text into the teaser. Then the listings of posts will look bad. Instead make the first couple of sentences of your post a summary in a nutshell of your post and then put the 'break' at the end of it if Drupal does not break it correctly. Note that this applies only to blog posts and not page posts. Full content of pages are shown always.

Just experiment with the buttons. Now that you have the post looking just the way you want make sure of doing some additional things.

  • Click on the Input format link below and make sure the 'Full HTML option is selected.
  • You can also turn on or disable user comments by clicking on 'Comment settings'.
  • You can also attach a file to your post by clicking File Attachments

Just one other note: Make sure that your always preview your post before you post by clicking the 'Preview' Button (you can always go back and edit your post). When every thing is to your satisfaction click 'Save'.
